Insurance
Basic insurance with a GP referral; own risk applies. Own fee not stated.
In Nijmegen you will find MAM STERK, Pre- postnatale fysiotherapie en training Nijmegen, a perinatal psychologist. The address is Berg en Dalseweg 63, 6522 BB Nijmegen. Province of Gelderland.
What this kind of care covers A perinatal psychologist treats mental health difficulties around pregnancy, birth and the period afterwards. It is a field in its own right: postnatal depression, anxiety and intrusive thoughts about your baby, and flashbacks to a birth that went differently than you hoped all need a different approach than the same symptoms outside this life stage. Roughly one in eight mothers experiences this. It does not resolve by itself, and it responds well to treatment.
Mothers usually come to this kind of care for things like panic attacks or extreme irritability, flashbacks to the birth and anxiety or intrusive thoughts about your baby. An intake takes about an hour and is a conversation, not a test. You describe what is going on and what you need, and together you decide on a direction. Where the birth was traumatic, EMDR often comes into the picture, usually after one or two intake sessions. You need a referral letter from your GP if you want the basic insurance to cover it.

Frequently asked questions
What is MAM STERK, Pre- postnatale fysiotherapie en training Nijmegen and what can I find here?
MAM STERK, Pre- postnatale fysiotherapie en training Nijmegen is listed in this guide as a perinatal psychologist in Nijmegen, province of Gelderland. A perinatal psychologist treats mental health difficulties around pregnancy, birth and the period afterwards. What this specific practice offers has not been confirmed by the practice itself — ask about it at first contact.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
Yes, you need an appointment; the source explicitly states that visits are by appointment. You can book by phone on +31 6 30242078 and through the website. Mention that you have recently given birth — it helps them schedule enough time.
What are the opening hours?
According to the source: Mon 09:00–21:00, Tue closed, Wed–Thu 09:00–21:00, Fri 08:30–10:30, Sat–Sun closed. Those are the hours the practice is open, not necessarily when an appointment is free — the diary may be full further ahead. Hours also change during Dutch school holidays. Call or check the website for the current situation.
What does it cost, and is it covered by insurance?
Yes, by the basic insurance, provided you have a referral letter (verwijsbrief) from your GP and the practitioner is BIG-registered. Without a referral you pay yourself. Treatment falls under either generalist or specialist mental health care depending on severity. Your own risk (eigen risico) does apply — €385 in 2026. One route many people do not know about: a conversation with the praktijkondersteuner GGZ (mental health practice nurse) at your own GP surgery is free, does not touch your own risk, and is usually available within two weeks. For milder complaints that is a good first step, and you can do it while waiting for something else. What this particular practice charges for a consultation, and whether it has a contract with your specific health insurer, is not in our source. Ask for the fee before you book.
